Ear Correction Surgery

Ear Correction Surgery

Surgeries to correct dissatisfaction with the shape and size of the ears, such as pinning back protruding ears, ear reduction, and aesthetic reshaping of the earlobe, are commonly performed. Protruding ears are often due to an excessive angle between the ear and the head, as well as insufficient development of the upper ear fold. This is an aesthetic issue that should be operated on during the preschool or childhood phase to prevent the child from being teased during school and developing self-confidence issues. The procedure can be performed unilaterally or bilaterally.

Surgery

The procedure can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia and typically lasts 1-1.5 hours. After the surgery, a bandage is applied to the ears.

Postoperative Phase

Nutrition begins immediately after the operation, and the patient is mobilized. The duration of hospitalization can end on the same day or last for one night. Bandages are usually removed on the second day, and patients can shower afterwards. The stitches dissolve on their own. Hairbands are used in the first 3 weeks after the operation to fix the ears. Patients can typically return to work in 5-7 days and engage in light activities 2-3 weeks after the operation. More intense activities are possible about 1 month after the operation.
